Mistletoe-Ready

No one has ever written longing prose about lips being “white as snow”—not about anyone alive, anyway.  So don’t be caught dead under the mistletoe without perfect, kiss-ready lips!  Here’s what you should have in your Mistletoe Emergency Kit:

-Nude Lipliner (you should own one of these anyway)

One of my favorite, all-time brands!

-Lipstick (holiday red)

With a lipstick this gorgeous, you'll be excited to pull this from your purse year-round.

-Lip Gloss

I love this gloss--has the best finish!

-The iconic end-result is this:

Happy Holidays to everyone this year!!

XOXO,

Genetically Based Skincare: Fact or Fiction

Being in the skincare industry has been so very rewarding and fun as I get to hear about and experience some of the latest treatments and skincare products available.  What isn’t fun is recalling the ghastly amounts of money spent on the latest/greatest that will just end up under my sink!  Enter SkinShift.  One of the coolest things that has come to my attention is a DNA test that breaks down your own propensity to age, based on your unique genetic code.   A simple cheek swab will determine where you are high risk and where you are low in five areas:  collagen formation, sun protection, antioxidant protection, glycation and inflammation control.  Basically what this does is free you from the guessing game so you can control how your dollars are best spent and on what!   Their website breaks down all the science behind it and includes a sample report.

Finally, something you actually CAN blame your mother for.  ;)

Inside these magical canisters contain the cheek swab + instructions

Amy Winehouse Style...

Although Amy Winehouse is best known for her musical talent, her last creative acheivement was in the feild of fashion design. Winehouse was widely known for her over-the-top style wearing classic 50's sillouettes, accessorized with that mile high beehive, and thick black eye-liner which definitley caught the attention of the fashion world. Brittish designer Fred Perry teamed up with Amy in 2010 to create a fashion line inspired by her iconic look.

Gwyneth Paltrow - Totally the New Face of Coach

Oscar? Check. Country album? Check. Coach spokesperson? Check.

Yes that’s correct-- Gwyneth Paltrow is the new face of Coach, replacing former ambassador for a decade now… oh wait… every high school girl in suburbia with babysitting money and a ride to the outlet mall. Coach is really pulling out the big guns with landing Oscar-winning actress such as Gwyn, in what seems to be a huge effort to re-sophisticate their image after it was hijacked by the aforementioned Glee-watching female demographic. Can you blame them? Hello. It's time they put their classic Americana image back on the right track. [High five Coach marketing people! It only took you ten years.]

And Gwyn, you go girl! Just check your dignity at the door and ride that Coach wave all the way to the bank… Now all you need now are some Hollister jean cut offs, some Sperry's and you're practically head cheerleader.

Give me a "C" !!

XO,

Mini Vacay Guide - Austin, TX

One of the great things about living in Houston, is the fact that we're so close to Austin. It's one of my favorite last minute mini-vacay destinations...

Where to stay:

Austin, TX - Hotel Saint Cecilia

This charming boutique hotel is by far our first choice of places to stay in Austin. If no rooms are available (there aren't very many) their sister hotel the Hotel San Jose is another good choice.

What to pack:

1.) I bring dresses that will go day to night (nights in Austin are extremely casual) in case we don't go back to the hotel to change for dinner.

2.) Cute but comfortable sandals or flats for walking/shopping.

3.) A couple of scarves and easy to pack accessories (nothing too glitzy).

4.) Running shoes for taking a walk/run around Town Lake.

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD RED LABEL Short dress

$440.00$265.00 by Vivienne Westwood at YOOX

Burn-Out Halter Dress

$148.00 at Free People

To Do List:

1.) Walk/shop on South Congress stopping into Maya Star, By George, and Dress Shop among others.

2.) Get a mani/pedi at Embellish a unique, hip, girlie Austin nail boutique. I recommend making an appointment! Walk-ins usually get turned away.

3.) Go to Lambert's for some bar-b-que, Uchi or Uchiko for sushi, and I can't go to Austin without having brunch at Enoteca Vespaio. The pancakes are amazing.

4.) Try something new.. A new food truck I want to try but haven't yet is The Peached Tortilla...

{The Peached Tortilla next to the Star Bar patio}

Mini-Vacay Playlist:

The Naked + Famous, Florence + The Machine,  Getz/Gilberto (remastered original Bossa Nova music), Foster the People
